"Jewelry" by Micachu: (8.2) One of my new favorites, Mica's freshman album is a chaotic jungle of found sounds, synthesizers, and shifting rhythms, yet it is always in control and comes back together. Highlights are "Sweetheart", "Golden Phone", and "Curly Teeth". (Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?ydfwokh5ygj).
"Third" by Portishead: (9.1) Portishead was quickly becoming one of my favorites bands before I left Springfield, and this (their third album, if the title didn't give it away) album shattered my previous thoughts about the band. It took a couple listens, but it came around. The songs start out frustrated and lack-luster, but just as the song is about to close everything comes together for twenty or thirty seconds of magic. (Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?casz7gn75m9kz7x).
"People That Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World" by Andrew Jackson Jihad: (8.7) What can I say, I've seen this band live twice and it's the gushiest people-love folk punk in existence. They're slightly more optimistic, but otherwise could easily pass for The Smiths of our generation. (Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?je20ih3jrze)
"Purse Seine" by Blackbird Raum: (8.1) This was truly a sound that I'd always wanted to hear, but could never find, and then one day I stumble across this California folk punk group. The winnder in this album is hands down "Ars Groetia". (Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?o2hjmw44wfz)
"Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust" by Sigur Rós: (9.2) Another band that I've been listening to for a number of years, and just like Portishead, when I heard this release I had to completely reconsider everything I'd known about them. For once their songs had been given life, and excites melancholy.
"Nice, Nice, Very Nice" by Dan Mangan: (9.4) This is not the kind of music I'd ever find myself falling in love with, and Dan Mangan is just a lovable musician with real talent! It's definitely the honesty in his songs that captured me, and paired with that perfect indie-meets-country sound. I haven't had a chance to really listen to his new stuff, but it didn't sound exciting. (Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?jfwbzwrqlyucpur)
"Assemble the Aviary" by Dovekins: (8.6) A Boulder band, these kids really put together a solid album with this one. There are some sounds and songs that just don't interest me, but the album explores a handful of sounds, many of which are very interesting.
"Salvation is a Deep Dark Well" by The Builders and the Butchers: (9.0) Their self-titled album was amazing, and this one was simply something out of this world, or rather something that could've been the score to Cohen Brothers' True Grit. Highlights of this album (I'll limit myself to 3): "In the Branches", "Vampire Lake", and "Devil Town" (though most people would probably put "Barcelona" in their top 3). (Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?zymykkb20nw)

Files Removed from Mediafire
The folks over at New Prejudice distro (Mark Smith, specifically) took the liberty of removing albums on a number of music blogs, but more specifically only albums which they sell. If you'd like the continued sharing of anarcho-collectivist punk music to thrive as it should, then stay away from the profiteers over at New Prejudice.

This album is a MUST HEAR. Great group of kids from Nashville, TN. Banjo, washboard, guitar, mandolin, washtub bass... what's not to love in a traveling, street performing folk punk band with heavy old-timey influence? Photo and album courtesy of Heart Full of Napalm. They have a new album out as well; details on how to order are on their website.

Pronounced "Chernozyom"... I don't really know how to describe this band. They're sort of the closest thing I've found in the Russian punk scene to anarcho-punk, yet they maintain a very obscure, avant garde quality to them. I actually don't know what to call them... Indie doesn't exactly feel fitting, but neither do other genres.
I highly suggest giving track 13 a listen to. It's the song that really won my heart with this band (and to note it's not the original track 13 on the album... it's a cleaner version and maybe a newer version of the song). Also, thanks to AntiPunk for providing this album!

I've been trying to find this album for years now. I highly recommend it if you enjoy pirate shanties, folk music, or amusing music about pirates. Perhaps there is a certain level of irony in pirating their music...

Ива Нова - S/T

The Russian incarnation of folk-punk is much different than the American styles, so even though these girls kick ass, they may not be the type of folk-punk you are used to. Their sound is similar to their former band, Бабслэй, but Ива Нова (Iva Nova) is more produced and has a more serious sound. Again, this album may be pretty different than what you're used to, but it's fairly fantastic!

Бабслэй - Елдырина слобода

Very interesting all women folk-punk band from Russia. I've learned that Russian incarnations of folk-punk are very, very different than American incarnations, as these girls sound like a mixture of Gogol Bordello, Bjork, and a kind of World/Inferno Friendship Society circus-esque music style. I'm pretty sure that the story goes that they broke up and a few of them reformed into Iva Nova (Ива Нова). Note that I may not have rewritten the track names correctly from their English-phonetic spelling, so any of you Russian-speakers out there want to make any spelling corrections, by all means please do :)

Erik Petersen - Bellingham & Philadelphia

I don't have the portion of this album featuring Robert Blake, sorry. It's only half of a split. Erik Petersen is the lead vocals and guitar in Mischief Brew. Here's his solo work. Straight folk punk, right off the rails.
If you have the full album, you should let me know :D
